Bio Science Department
About Bio Science Department

The science of today cannot be separated from its application in society. Biology and medicine have contributed significantly to culture and society as a whole, thus influencing everyday life.
Biotechnology - an exploitation of biological organisms or biological processes through modern techniques, which could be profitably used in medicine, agriculture, animal husbandry and environmental cloning has become the latest sunrise sector in the Indian economy, as it is fast gaining ground to be at par with the information technology sector. Microbiology - the study of microorganisms and their applications emphasizes on how microbes, often viewed negatively due to their association with many human illnesses, are also responsible for many beneficial processes such as, industrial fermentation, antibiotic production and as vehicles for cloning. Scientists have exploited their knowledge of microbes to produce biotechnologically important enzymes for use in other genetic systems and novel molecular biology techniques. Driven by new enterprise and innovation in recent years, the sectors of biotechnology and microbiology are on an accelerated growth path and are rapidly attaining critical mass in terms of skills and capabilities to become a truly global player.
The Department of Biosciences combines the disciplines of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Genetics into a single academic unit. Each of the four concentrations in the program enables the student to obtain advanced preparation in one of the specialities in Bioscience. These courses are designed to produce versatile graduates prepared for a wide range of positions in the rapidly developing Bioscience field.
